Nebuta in Aomori prefecture

Posted by nicoJapaneseRubberStamps on

I visited a museum where I could experience the Nebuta Festival.
The Nebuta Festival is one of the three most famous festivals in the Tohoku region and takes place from 2-7 August, attracting a total of two million visitors to the Nebuta Festival site in Aomori City.

Nebuta making is,

1.Deciding on the subject matter
2.Drawing a rough sketch as a blueprint
3.Create the parts (masks, hands, feet, feeders, etc.)
4. Build the framework for the parts to be placed.
5.Electrical wiring to light the lights from the inside
6. Pasting paper to cover the surface of the wire
7.Calligraphy to draw black edges and lines on the paper
8.Writing with wax to prevent colour muddling when colouring.
9. Colouring to add colour to a white background.
10.Lifting and setting up on a cart.
The product is completed through these ten processes.

The largest is approximately 9 m wide, 5 m high and 7 m deep, making it quite powerful.

The museum displays some of the best Nebuta made this year, and some of the best works are displayed in the museum.
The museum also displays some of the best entries of this year's Nebuta and offers a close-up look at the colourful and powerful Nebuta.

There are also objects you can touch and learn about the process of making them.
Furthermore, a stage is regularly held where visitors can experience Nebuta shouts and dances together, creating an atmosphere of Nebuta.

The dark interior of the room allows the colours of the Nebuta to be clearly expressed, giving visitors the feeling of a festival on the day of the Nebuta.

The Nebuta Museum is a great place to visit and is easily accessible, just a minute's walk from Aomori Station.
It was a very valuable experience for me to experience a place I have wanted to visit for a long time.
